You know the newest Republican talking point about "real" America and "pro-America" parts of the country? It seems that GOP politicians and surrogates all over the country jumped after Gov. Sarah Palin talked about how small-towns form the bedrock of America and Minnesota Congressional candidate Michele Bachmann opined that the press should investigate anti-American sentiment in Congress. As it turns out, the GOP has been shamed into pulling its ads and money out of Bachmann's race.
Well, as only it could, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart did a funny but true piece on life in "real American" small towns. The funniest parts are when reporter Jason Jones travels to Wasilla, AK where Palin used to be mayor and chums it up with bar faithful and then badgers the current mayor of Wasilla into explaining exactly how having staff meetings and signing checks on Thursdays in a town that doesn't manage it's own fire department, school system, or social services qualifies her to be a VP candidate. Watch "Understanding Real America in Wasilla" and learn.
