Other national figures that have been convicted or tied to ethics or corruption investigations in the last few years include the following Morality Hall of Famers (you'll find mostly self-righteous Republicans dominating this worthy list):
Senator "Uncle Ted" Stevens (R-AK)--indicted in July 2008 for lying about hundreds of thousands of dollars (at least $250,000 to be exact) in home renovations by a company which benefitted from his legislative efforts.
Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK)--there's something in the water up here. Friday, October 10, 2008 the bi-partisan ethics investigation (there were more Republicans than Democrats on this committee) found that the Governor abused her power to hire and fire based on personal rather than personnel-related reasons.
Senator Larry Craig (R-ID)--Larry Craig went from a no-name Senator from Idaho to an overnight joke on comedy circuits after revelations that he was caught up in a undercover gay-sex sting in a Minneapolis, Minnesota airport bathroom. This is rich coming from a Congressman who has consistently campaigned against gay marriage and opposed hate crimes legislation for the gay community. Meanwhile, Craig had to resign his role a Governor Mitt Romney's (R-MA) Senate liaison for his Presidential campaign.
Mark Foley (R-FL)--the architect of the Page Boy-Text scandal, Foley was drummed out of office following revelations of inappropriate and lewd text messages and chat sessions with teenage boys employed in the Congressional Page Program.
Tom Delay (Speaker of US House-TX)-- connected with powerful Republican lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, Tom Delay was forced by the GOP to resign his post after being charged with Texas felonies in a Texas money laundering investigation.
Newt Gingrich (Speaker of US House-GA)--Setting the pace for future Speaker Delay, Gingrich, a most hypocritical Speaker who helped lead Bill Clinton's impeachment for the Monica Lewinsky affair, also took part in several scandals. Of course, Newt admitted in 2007 that he himself was involved in an affair with a Congressional assistant at the same time he was leading the charges against President Clinton. Another event Gingrich was involved in was the House Banking Scandal in which Newt wrote 22 bounced checks on government money and almost cost himself re-election in 1992. If he had been paying more attention to the state of the Republican Party instead of engaging in various extramarital liaisons talked about in Washington circles, he might have been able to implement the "Contract with America".
I have no problem if a politician opposes gay rights, is anti-abortion, or campaigns on moral responsibility. I myself am a born-again Christian and believe in taking actions that are moral and right. It's good to take a stand on what you believe in, but please don't be a hypocrite--that's all I'm saying. I'm sure there are more morality crusaders out there mostly from the Republican right, but I just don't have the time to list all of them. I have to go help my children with their homework now.
